Travelers Obligations
These obligations are designed to regulate the lawful entry, stay, and exit of individuals in Kenya and to safeguard the integrity of the country’s immigration system.
- Possession of Valid Travel Documents, ETA, Entry Permit, return or onward ticket.
- Compliance with eTA Requirements
Before entering Kenya, travelers must obtain the appropriate eTA or permit, depending on the purpose of their visit, such as: - Honesty in Providing Information
Travelers are required to provide truthful and accurate information during the visa application process and at points of entry. - Compliance with Health Regulations
Travelers must comply with health and vaccination requirements before entering Kenya. - Respecting the Conditions of Stay
Once in Kenya, travelers must comply with the conditions specified in their eTA or entry permit. They include:- Engaging only in activities permitted under the type of entry permit / visitors pass.
- Refraining from unlawful activities such as employment without a valid work permit or engaging in criminal activity.
- Not overstaying beyond the authorized period of stay.
- Timely Renewal or Extension of Permits
If a traveler intends to extend their stay in Kenya, they must apply for a visitors pass extension or renewal of their permits before the expiration date. Overstaying without approval is a violation of Kenyan immigration law and can result in penalties, fines, or deportation. - Reporting of Lost or Stolen Travel Documents
In the event of loss or theft of travel documents (e.g., passport or visa), travelers must report the incident to Kenyan immigration authorities and obtain appropriate documentation to facilitate their continued stay or departure. - Obligation to Exit Kenya Lawfully
Upon completion of their visit or authorized stay, travelers must exit Kenya through designated points of exit with valid travel documents. Failure to exit within the permitted time frame constitutes an immigration violation, subject to fines, detention, or deportation. - Duty to Report Changes in Personal Circumstances
Travelers staying in Kenya for extended periods or on long-term permits are required to report any significant changes in their personal circumstances, including change of address, change of dependency or sponsorship status or change of employment or educational institution (for work or student permit holders).

Travelers must cooperate with Kenyan immigration officers during entry, exit, or inspection processes. - Consequences of Non-Compliance
Failure to comply with the immigration obligations can lead to various consequences for travelers, such as Fines or penalties for overstaying, providing false information, or engaging in unauthorized activities, detention or deportation for serious violations and being barred from re-entering Kenya in the future.
