Border Management Overview
Border Management functions derives its mandate from the Constitution of Kenya, Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act 2011, Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Regulations 2012, the East African Community OSBP Act 2016 and allied legislations.
Strategic Functions of Border Management
1. Enforcement of Immigration Laws
We ensure strict adherence to Kenya’s immigration laws across all points of entry and exit, aligned with the Kenya Citizenship and Immigration Act and the East African Community Free Movement Protocol. Our efforts promote regional integration and uphold the rule of law.
2. Combating Organized Immigration Crime
The DIS works with other law enforcement agencies to dismantle criminal networks involved in human trafficking, smuggling, and document fraud. We actively participate in global initiatives targeting Transnational Organised Crimes(TOC)
3. Enhancing National Security
Partnering with security agencies to combat terrorism, organized immigration crime, fraud, irregular cross border migration and securing Kenya territorial borders.
Leveraging cutting-edge technologies such as biometric systems to ensure the smooth and secure movement of people and goods, adhering to ICAO Annex 9 and the EAC Free Movement Protocol.
5. Fraud Detection and Prevention
To maintain the integrity of our immigration system, we employ advanced technologies to detect, deter and prevent document fraud, identity theft, and family unit fraud.
6. Fostering Partnerships
DIS engages MDA and regional and international bodies in strengthening border management through collaborative initiatives, we ensure secure borders while facilitating safe and orderly migration.
